In San Jose, there are plenty of Gay and Lesbian Nightclubs, Bars and Discos, a few saunas, a gay internet café and a number of gay friendly restaurants, hotels and retail establishments. There are plenty of terrific restaurants for late dinner and then around midnight the clubs await you and thrill you until morning arrives! At L’Avispa, you’ll find a large, open bi-level space with great sound and a pulsing dance floor. Popular nights are Sunday and Tuesday. Déjà vu offers lots of dancing and spectacular shows, especially by men, to an elegantly dressed clientele; taxi only—don’t walk. Puchos offers drag shows and hot male dancers. Club Oh is techno-heavy with two dance floors and weekly drag shows—also taxi to this one. Others to consider are Punto G (.G), Al Despiste and El Bochinche.
By day the Manuel Antonio/Quepos area offers you great sandy beaches, shopping, hiking and national parks and by night a great bar scene! Best known is Bar Tutu, located on the roof deck of the Gato Negro restaurant, across from L’Avion--the giant airplane bar/restaurant across the street. Tutu’s bar is set high above the forest and the sunset view is phenomenal. Crowd is mixed, gay/straight, local/tourists. For a once-in-a-lifetime bar experience go to Bat Cave Bar at La Mansion Boutique Hotel. Enjoy the in-cave waterfall at this bar which is carved out of ancient natural rock formations. If you’re brave enough, watch the real, live bats as they hang from the ceiling of the cave while you enjoy your cocktail!! Mixed crowd.
